This paper examines and contextualizes the academic background of Alfonso Carvajal Escobar, with an emphasis on his time at the Section d'Architecture of the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Engineer and architect, constructor and teacher, little known until today in Colombian historiography that has studied the architecture of the 20th century, he was one of only two Colombians who graduated from the prestigious French institute. Based on a direct review of primary sources, and in the light of recent French historiography that deals in depth with multiple aspects of the social and cultural history of teaching architecture, this study seeks to enrich new perspectives (in the case of Colombia and Latin America), fundamentally related to the history of teaching architecture and its processes of internationalization and transfer during the first half of the 20th century. |

Ingeniero y arquitecto, constructor y docente, poco conocido hasta hoy por la historiografía colombiana que ha abordado la arquitectura del siglo XX, fue uno de los dos únicos casos de estudiantes colombianos diplomados de la prestigiosa institución francesa. A partir de la revisión directa de fuentes primarias, y a la luz de la historiografía francesa reciente que aborda a profundidad múltiples aspectos de la historia social y cultural de la enseñanza de la arquitectura, esta investigación busca enriquecer nuevas perspectivas (en el caso colombiano y latinoamericano) relacionadas fundamentalmente con la historia de la enseñanza de la arquitectura y sus procesos de internacionalización y transferencia durante la primera mitad del siglo XX. Expõe-se e contextualiza-se a formação acadêmica de Alfonso Carvajal Escobar, com ênfase na sua passagem pela Section d'Architecture da Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Paris. Engenheiro e arquiteto, construtor e docente, pouco conhecido até hoje pela historiografia colombiana que aborda a arquitetura do século XX foi um dos dois únicos casos de estudantes colombianos formados pela prestigiosa instituição francesa. A partir da revisão direta de fontes primárias e à luz da historiografia francesa recente, a qual aborda a fundo múltiplos aspectos da história social e cultural do ensino da arquitetura, esta pesquisa pretende enriquecer novas perspectivas (no caso colombiano e latino-americano) relacionadas fundamentalmente com a história do ensino da arquitetura e seus processos de internacionalização e transferência durante a primeira metade do século XX.
