الملخص:The Venice Architecture Biennale is one of the most important events in the world for architecture and disciplinary debate. Two of the past biennials: the one that was curated by the Dutchman Rem Koolhaas in 2014 and the one curated by the Chilean Alejandro Aravena in 2016; with their marked differences and oppositions, they are used as a pretext for a critical reflection on two tendencies that could be defined as "hemispheric". The Koolhaas Biennial presented valuable historical-encyclopedic research, which emanated a latent concern. The 2016 Biennale, the first Biennial curated by an architect of the “southern hemisphere” of the world, tried to show in its breadth a panorama of socially more committed works, but in turn skewed towards an excess of pragmatism. Possibly assessing these two approaches in a comparative reflection can restore more clarity to thought and action, thanks to the synthesis between antithetical positions that, by themselves, do not seem to embrace the broad spectrum of contemporary disciplinary possibilities and needs.
