It gave an organized and critical outlook of the accumulated knowledge, in order to contribute with the hypothesis verification and method adaptation to the different disciplines. In the research, it was found a wellknown but least explored way; when studying the concepts in their original discourses, an interesting set of approaches, criticisms and debates were found. They were clasified based on the environmental, economic, social, cultural, and institutional sustainability standpoints. Such a diversity allowed the definition of criteria for each one of the perspectives and the recognition of techniques, in order to measure traditional housing sustainability. At the same time, the study detected a vast number of empty discourses that use the concept as a trend, without any significant contribution. En la búsqueda de los componentes de la sostenibilidad de la vivienda tradicional se indagósobre los conceptos y la evidencia empírica de la utilidad, lo que permitiótener un panorama organizado y crítico del conocimiento acumulado, a fin de contribuir con la comprobación de la hipótesis y adecuación de métodos a las diferentes ramas del saber. En este ejercicio de investigación se encontróun camino muy mencionado pero poco explorado; al estudiar los conceptos en sus discursos originales se hallóuna interesante gama de enfoques, críticas y debates, los cuales se clasificaron con base en los enfoques asociados de sostenibilidad ambiental, económica, social, cultural e institucional. Tal diversidad permitiódefinir criterios para cada uno de los enfoques y reconocer técnicas a fin de medir la sostenibilidad de la vivienda tradicional. Al mismo tiempo, se detectóuna infinidad de discursos vacíos que utilizan el concepto como una moda, sin ninguna aportación significativa.
