The 7th steel design competition ALACERO 2014, sought to encourage the use of this alloy as an economic and efficient construction material; to that end, it proposed the design of a "medium-height social housing" blueprint. The problem was addressed based on the guidelines given by the Education Project of the Universidad Catolica de Colombia School of Architecture. The project development was asumed from the problem recognition, the construction of guiding questions, and the implementation of the concurrent design with the purpose of generating a proposal that tends to improve the people's quality of life and sensitize the inhabitants on the virtues of steel as construction material. The manipulation of the metallic structure is conceived as an element of social connection that satisfies the demand of the city in a sustainable way, technologically advanced and clean. El aprendizaje basado en problemas permite a los estudiantes la posibilidad de enfrentarse a problemas reales de diversa índole, generando autonomía en la manera de aproximarse al conocimiento y a la solución del encargo proyectual. El 7º Concurso de Diseño en Acero - alacero 2014, buscaba fomentar el uso de esta aleación como material constructivo económico y eficiente, y para ello se proponía el diseño de un anteproyecto de "Vivienda social de altura media". Este problema fue abordado a partir de los planteamientos expuestos en el Proyecto Educativo del Programa de Arquitectura de la Universidad Católica de Colombia. El desarrollo del proyecto que se presentóa la preselección (5º Concurso de diseño en acero para estudiantes de arquitectura) se asumiódesde el reconocimiento del problema, la construcción de preguntas guía y la implementación del diseño concurrente, con el fin de generar una propuesta que aporte al mejoramiento de la calidad de vida de la población y a la sensibilización de los habitantes sobre las virtudes del acero como material constructivo. El manejo de la estructura metálica se concibe como un elemento de vinculación social, que satisface la demanda de la ciudad de manera sostenible, tecnológicamente avanzada y limpia.
