La especialización de zonas de las ciudades, particularmente en las ciudades americanas, como áreas reservadas a los negocios, y la aparición de edificios de oficinas, junto al crecimiento de los precios de los terrenos, prepararon las bases para el desarrollo de una nueva tipología de edificios altos: el rascacielos. Los nuevos conocimientos científicos, avances técnicos en la construcción, nuevos materiales, accesorios y equipos, así como los requerimientos derivados del desarrollo del aparato productivo, motorizarán el desarrollo de la tecnología de edificios altos. Ese proceso de cambio técnico se revisa en este artículo.AbstractThe development of iron and steel structures meant the beginning of a progressive process of growth in the height of the buildings. The specialization of areas of the cities, particularly in the American cities, as reserved areas to the business, and the appearance of the office building, just as the increment of the prices of urban land, prepared the bases for the development of a new type of high buildings: the skyscraper. The new scientific knowledge, the tecnical advances in construction, new materials, accesories and equipment, as well as the derived requirements of the development of the productive sector, will motorize the development of the tecnology of tall buildings. That process of technical change is revised in this article.
