Resumo:Fiocruz is a public foundation, with a nationwide presence, which focuses on the production and sharing of knowledge and technologies concerning health. This article explores the adoption of BIM (Building Information Modeling) in the management of spaces, assets and maintenance, project management, and the management of built facilities, relating the experiences of the Department of Architecture and Engineering (DAE) of COGIC-FIOCRUZ. COGIC is responsible for the administration of the physical space of FIOCRUZ as a whole, providing services ranging from basic services to construction work, and civil and equipment maintenance. In constructions, it works in all aspects of the cycle: design, project planning, construction, use and maintenance, renovation and demolition, with the DAE being one of the principal executors of these actions. The methodology employed was bibliographical research and action research. It was possible to confirm in practice some advantages such as a reduction in rework in the project design process, as well as a reduction in time spent on the executive project and an increase in time spent on the draft project, due to adjustments seeking compatibility in all of the disciplines already at this stage. Disseminating the experiences and the paths already taken can help other public entities in implementing a process which involves innovation and a change in culture.
