Viewed not as an autonomous field, but as, above all, a space of representation of the new model of national state that was tried to establish at that moment, the architecture is considered here both from the ideological and cultural ambiguities housed in the state structure created by Vargas, but also in its internal tensions in which several aesthetic currents coexisted and disputed the public works market in frank process of expansion in those decades. The article seeks to highlight the work of technical teams producing architecture from within the state bureaucracy, corroborating the idea that in Brazil the state was not only a consumer of architecture but an architectural producer. To consider this perspective is to open an opportunity to analyze the place and function of the organs and technical teams operating within the structures of the State in the formation of an architectural culture in Brazil in the last century.
