Sumario:The article proposes to construct an urbanism history based in the analysis of urban plans and its resulting projects. According to arguments, the plans, in their attempt to articulate all the city's constructive spaces and dimensions, besides their material consequences, condensate the state of knowledge about the urban matter in a given moment. On their side, the projects, concrete proposals destined to the transformation of precise places, contribute to firm those global ideas in the territory. From that perspective it is proposed that plans and projects, themselves and in their mutual relations, can illuminate some of the complex and not very lineal relations that are woven between the ideas and the material construction of the city. In order to present the problem the extent of words and notions is explored and the treatment of the problem is presented in the bibliography.
