Sumario:Transport, pedestrianization and conservation are three main problems in the management of heritage cities, especially in the Latin American cities, where economic resources limit their access to sustainable transport systems. After having an overview of the problem and its causes, have been investigated solutions as well as the implementation of appropriate policies, related to the subject, in the historical centres. Likewise, we have analyzed successful cases of traffic management systems developed in cities of the world heritage in order to find solutions transferable and that they can be adapted to the context of Cuenca, one of the two cities patrimony of the humanity of the Ecuador.Keywords: Public transport, sustainability, historical centre, Cuenca, Ecuador.
