Summary: | This article analyzes the period of crisis of the real estate market of Mar del Plata, one of the most important tourist cities of Argentina. About the end of the 1970’s, and early 80’s, it appears clear the end of a period with the characteristic of buying / selling properties, along with a strong process of slowing down of construction activity, which would continue in time.During this period, we found the loss of certain variables that sustained a virtuous circle of production of second buildings for leisure time, i.e.: quick and easy sale, serial construction and real estate speculation. The crisis was due to a series of external and internal causes of the described process, so we pay attention to circumstantial and long-term factors, such as economic, legal, social and business, or the local, provincial and national factors. However, this would finally not cause a complete dissociation of a local real estate market dependent on tourism.
