| Résumé: | This paper, which constitutes the first chapter of a research project on the history of the "Pampean Formation", presents en overview of the evidence and geological observations published by Charles Darwin and Alcide d'Orbigny as a result of their voyages to the Plata River and Patogonia regions. We also sketch the material and social networks that shaped their fieldwork and observations; as well as the different geognostic and geological traditions involved in the controversy over the origin and age of the South American Tertiary strata. |
