Shrnutí:This essay is the result of a reflection applied to the notion of space in the pedagogical proposal developed, since 1952, by the Institute of Architecture, within the School of Architecture of the Catholic University of Valparaiso. The group of architects and artists that founded it maintained that only through the work of an institute was possible to reestablish the teaching and practice of architecture. The nucleus of the pedagogy was the Workshop and Space courses. In this context, Alberto Cruz found fertile ground to insist on his experimental approach to the teaching of architecture, overcoming the negative reactions he had provoked in a relatively traditional school such as the Catholic University of Santiago. Thus, space became the conceptual component that determined the process of disciplinary renovation carried out by the institute in the School of Architecture of Valparaíso.
