The group of architects and artists that founded it maintained that only through the work of an institute was possible to reestablish the teaching and practice of architecture. The nucleus of the pedagogy was the Workshop and Space courses. In this context, Alberto Cruz found fertile ground to insist on his experimental approach to the teaching of architecture, overcoming the negative reactions he had provoked in a relatively traditional school such as the Catholic University of Santiago. Thus, space became the conceptual component that determined the process of disciplinary renovation carried out by the institute in the School of Architecture of Valparaíso. Este escrito es el resultado de una reflexión aplicada a la noción de espacio en la propuesta pedagógica desarrollada, a partir de 1952, por el Instituto de Arquitectura, al interior de la Escuela de Arquitectura de la Universidad Católica de Valparaíso. El grupo de arquitectos y artistas que lo fundó sostenía que solo a partir de la labor de un instituto era posible refundar la enseñanza y la práctica de la arquitectura. El núcleo de la pedagogía eran los cursos de Taller y de Espacio. En este contexto, Alberto Cruz encontró un terreno fértil para insistir en su mirada experimental de la enseñanza de la arquitectura, superando las reacciones negativas que había provocado en una escuela relativamente tradicional como era la de la Universidad Católica de Santiago.
