Description
Résumé:From a city established along its main river to a city faced to the sea, Natal has modified its logic of urban structuring in different moments of its history, in accordance with changes observed in the economic field. In this work, we investigate how the choice of strategic territories in the city is associated to changes in the pattern of economic development. For this, we study the association between the economic and urban dynamics of Natal city in two moments of its history: one, when the river is prioritized and another, in which the sea is prioritized. Our hypothesis is that the valorization of urban territories corresponds to strategies of economic development connected to the interests of dominant social sectors. This way, this valorization is not just related to the economic functionality of the space, but also to the local interests’ games.
