Sumario:The following text aims to develop some ideas that will help to understand the role of cinema in the process of developing a nationalmexican conscience. Facing a reflexive scenario that is quite extensive, the chosen object of study is the film Arm in Arm Down the Street produced by Juan Bustillo Oro in 1955. One of the leitmotifs of the film, which is examined here, visualizes the city as the idyllic place to develop the awareness of a national identity, an assumption which is supported along the film by the two main character´s ideology.
