Housing is an exponent of –cultural– essential values, and the inhabitant is not an individual apart from the community. Thus, in housing a symbolic function can be perceived with a close-linked role to the collective identity and to the social processes which define it as a product of human labor. El habitar no sólo ocurre en la vivienda, sino en la totalidad de relaciones con el mundo; la casa responde a una necesidad, pero también ordena el universo del habitante. La vivienda es exponente de valores esenciales –de cultura– y el habitante no es un ser individual ajeno a un cuerpo social; de modo que en la vivienda se percibe una función simbólica, cuyo papel está vinculado a la identidad colectiva y a los procesos sociales que la determinarán como producto del trabajo del ser humano.
