Alberto T. Arai nació el 29 de marzo del año de 1915 en la Ciudad de México. Fue el cuarto hijo de Lucía Espinosa y del diplomático japonés Kinta Arai. Por la profesión de su padre, Arai viajó durante su niñez por Estados Unidos de Norteamérica, Brasil, Argentina, Chile, Perú, Panamá, Cuba, Francia...
