Ignacio Díaz Morales, friend and classmate of Luis Barragán at the School of Engineering, was the one who took upon himself the task of organizing a school that had the ideology of its own model. This architecture had to be local as well as universal, adjusted to the cultural needs and the economic momentum Guadalajara was experiencing. The base was the use of traditional and artisan construction in the code of modernity.Keywords: Craft, Modernity, cultural needs, traditional. Cuando la modernidad arquitectónica había sido ya asumida en la capital de México, en la ciudad de Guadalajara –una de las principales y más prósperas provincias mexicanas– comenzaba a ser acogida. Ignacio Díaz Morales, amigo y compañero de generación de Luis Barragán en la Escuela de Ingeniería, fue quién se propuso la tarea de organizar una Escuela con el ideario de un modelo propio de arquitectura, tan local como universal, ajustada a las necesidades culturales y al impulso económico que vivía Guadalajara. Una de las bases de la Escuela fue el uso de recursos y elementos de la construcción tradicional y artesanal con una clave de modernidad.Palabras clave: Artesanal, Modernidad, necesidades culturales, tradición.
