Beginning with a succinct depiction provided by United Nations, among others, in which the subcontinent comes out as the most urbanized region of the world, and a place where social and economic inequalities uphold over 124 million people living in poverty —more than 25% of all city dwellers—, afar from comprising 5 out of the 20 worst ranked nations in regards to absolute environmental impact, the authors raise the question of how to build a more suitable urban milieu for Latin America’s future out from the academia. In this context, the school of architecture at the Antonio Nariño University (UAN, as per the Spanish acronym), benefiting from its presence in 9 Colombian cities Bogota, Neiva, Palmira, Ibague, Villavicencio, Bucaramanga, Cucuta, Popayan y Puerto Colombia—, aims to bring up its students under an actual state of urban, regional and spatial conditions, revolving its undergraduate program around a curricular structure composed of lines of study, thematic units, key concepts’ application and research projects. El artículo aborda el tema de la profesionalización de los arquitectos en América Latina. Partiendo de una sucinta caracterización del subcontinente, que de acuerdo con las Naciones Unidas es la región más urbanizada de la tierra, en donde la inequidad socioeconómica mantiene en la actualidad a más de 124 millones de personas viviendo en condiciones de pobreza —más del 25% de los pobladores de las ciudades—, y que debido a dichas problemáticas posee 5 de las 20 naciones que generan mayor impacto ambiental, los autores se plantean una pregunta: ¿cómo construir un ambiente urbano más propicio para el futuro de América Latina desde la academia? En este contexto, el programa de arquitectura de la Universidad Antonio Nariño, a través de su presencia en nueve ciudades colombianas —Bogotá, Neiva, Palmira, Ibagué, Villavicencio, Bucaramanga, Cúcuta, Popayán y Puerto Colombia—, busca generar en sus graduandos una visión actual de las problemáticas urbanas, territoriales y regionales, concentrando los estudios de pregrado alrededor de una estructura curricular de líneas de investigación, ejes temáticos, aplicación de conceptos y proyectos de investigación.
