Based on accounts given by historical sources and the cartography produced by Nicanor Boloña in 1916 and 1917, the main constructions that dominated the process of occupying and colonizing the territory, which lasted several years, are described. These constructions include: the series of military forts, the division of rural land, and the railroad line. The sum of these constructions came to give a new physiognomy and order to the entire region. Thus, the objective of this paper is to begin to understand the Araucanía from the point of view of the construction of the territory ́s form. El siguiente trabajo plantea una mirada territorial a la región de la Araucanía en Chile, cuando esta es conformada en la segunda mitad del siglo XIX. En este período, la zona pasa de ser un territorio dominado y construido por las diferentes agrupaciones mapuches a uno dominado y construido por el Estado chileno. Basándose en los relatos que entregan las fuentes históricas y la cartografía elaborada por Nicanor Boloña en 1916 y 1917, se procederá a describir las principales construcciones que dominaron el proceso de ocupación y colonización del territorio, el cual duró varios años. Estas construcciones son: las líneas de fuertes militares, la división del suelo rural y la vía del ferrocarril. La suma de ellas vendrá a dar una nueva fisionomía y ordenación a toda la región. Así, el objetivo de este trabajo es comenzar a entender la Araucanía desde el punto de vista de la construcción de la forma del territorio.
