Achoimre:Valparaiso was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCo in 2003, which represented the end of a long and intense process of identification and protection of the cultural heritage, as well as the beginning of a new stage of creation and application of an integral and complex management system for dealing with a cultural resource of international value. This city represents a valuable testimony of the early stage of the globalization process of the 19th Century, when the city became the leading commercial port of the shipping routes of the Pacific Coast of Latin america. Within this context, this work aims at identifying and highlighting the assets of architectural, urban and cultural heritage; helping to promote the first regulation for its conservation and preservation within the instruments of territorial planning.
