Descripción
Summary:This work reviews the significant population and economic growth that Santiago has experienced, which has boosted the standards of life of its inhabitants and of the country in general. This growth is partly the result of remarkable public policies that have produced a persistent and favourable evolution, while also facing innumerable difficulties and the common problems of an emergent economy and the impact of big changes. In particular, the urban management of this capital city has evolved into an open and permanent exercise of analysis of strategic opportunities that provide the basis for numerous individual and collective decisions. For this reason, the economic initiatives are necessarily interrelated with those that seek to enhance the quality of life, preserve the local identity and culture, and very importantly, protect the natural environment. This is the agenda of a megacity that faces the challenges of development.
