Indeed, the methodologies in the last quarter century have had different epistemological roots depending on their disciplinary approaches, available technologies and specific needs to respond to the problems identified in modern cities.This article aims to summarize the methodological approaches and analyze their content in order to establish a theoretical framework for understanding the way we currently do planning. En los últimos años, las metodologías empleadas en la planificación urbana y del transporte han presentado una evolución que amerita una revisión pues ha influido en la forma de hacer planificación espacial. En efecto, las metodologías que figuran en el último cuarto de siglo tienen raíces epistemológicas distintas según sean los enfoques disciplinares, las tecnologías y las necesidades de responder a los problemas detectados en la ciudades modernas.El presente artículo pretende hacer una síntesis de los enfoques metodológicos y analizar sus contenidos con el objeto de establecer un marco teórico para entender la forma de hacer planificación a la actualidad y su proyección al futuro.
