No government measures or legislation have ever been implemented to protect the architectural heritage of this period. There are two parallel causes for this inaction: firstly in the collective imagination, heritage as a concept pertains to any historical period up to the 1920s. Secondly, the possibility of achieving the objectivity necessary to achieve a historical perspective of modern architecture is hampered by the works’ ongoing aesthetic and functional relevance. A cultural perspective is still more difficult to achieve. We review the trajectories and buildings of a number of architects in order to discover their local singularities, thus contributing to an appreciation of these works of architecture and their subsequent protection as part of our heritage. Este trabajo propone trazar un panorama general del desarrollo de la Arquitectura Moderna en Mendoza entre 1930 y 1970, a través de los autores y obras más significativos. La producción arquitectónica lograda en el período, en el presente de valor patrimonial, no cuenta con acciones gubernamentales ni legislación de protección. Esto se debe a dos razones concurrentes: La primera, desde el imaginario social el recorte temporal de lo patrimonial finaliza con la arquitectura de los años ’20 del siglo pasado. La segunda razón, la estética y la vigencia funcional de estas obras impiden poner la distancia crítica que requiere toda mirada histórica, aún más desde lo cultural. Vamos a revisar algunos autores a partir de sus trayectorias y su producción arquitectónica, con el objetivo de descubrir las singularidades de la producción local, haciendo aportes para la valoración de estos bienes y por ende para su patrimonialización.
