Diagrama de Voronoi como herramienta de diseño Flores R., María Loreto NET .LAB is the design research project carried out by the team of Ibraheem Ammash, Jimena Araiza, Maria Loreto Flores and Ahmad Sukkar, for the March Design Research Laboratory (DR L) at the Architectural Association School of Architecture, between 2004 and 2006.This research explores how algorithms can be applied parametrically in order to generate architectural spaces, articulating a variety of social systems, scales and program requirements. The application of the selected tool, the Voronoi Diagram brought two main challenges for the research:first, how the mathematical tool could inform the design, and second, how to complement the outputs with the designers will. With this purpose, the research involved several digital and physical experiments, in which the architect’s role was to articulate design logics andexplore a new range of formal possibilities rather than modelling a unique form. NET.LAB es el proyecto de investigación en diseño realizado en el marco del March Design Research Laboratory (DRL) por el equipo formado por Ibraheem Ammash, Jimena Araíza, María Loreto Flores y Ahmad Sukkar en la Architectural Association School of Architecture, Londres, entre 2004 y 2006.El objetivo de esta investigación fue la aplicación de algoritmos en la generación de espacios arquitectónicos articulando una amplia variedad de sistemas sociales, escalas y requerimientos programáticos. La implementación de la herramienta elegida, el Diagrama de Voronoi, representó dos desafíos principales a la investigación: en primer término, de qué forma el protocolo matemático informaría al diseño y en segundo lugar, como conjugar los resultados obtenidos con la voluntad estética del diseñador. Con este fin, la investigación incluyó una serie de experimentos digitales y físicos, los cuales plantearon un cuestionamiento directo a las habilidades y rol del arquitecto dentro de un proceso digitalmente dirigido, en el cual más allá de crear una forma específica, se requiere la articulación de nuevas lógicas de diseño.
