Ismael Nowadays, the tramway in France surprises with an explosive comeback. Many are the cities that have implemented it in recent years, a phenomenon that appeared with strength due to the political context that sustains it. Which interests does the reintroduction of the tramway as a means of transport in French cities respond to? Has it become a fashionable effect? The case studies of Strasbourg and Aubagne are both interesting scenarios to deepen and illustrate these questions. The main objective of this paper is to understand the strategies behind the French model in order to present elements that could fuel the discussion on the convenience of the implementation of modern tramways in Chile. Actualmente, el tranvía en Francia sorprende con un explosivo retorno. Muchas son las ciudades que lo han implementado durante los últimos años, fenómeno que apareció con fuerza debido al contexto político que lo sostiene. ¿A qué intereses responde la reintroducción del tranvía como medio de transporte prioritario en las ciudades francesas? ¿Se ha vuelto un efecto de moda? Los casos de las ciudades de Estrasburgo y de Aubagne constituyen escenarios interesantes para profundizar e ilustrar estas interrogantes. El objetivo del presente artículo es comprender las estrategias detrás del modelo francés para así presentar elementos que alimenten la discusión sobre la conveniencia de la implementación del tranvía moderno en Chile.
