Proposals privilegiates the use of local resources, stabilized earth components and wooden frame. The methodology includes interdisciplinary work, local people participation transference. The project is supported by the University of Buenos Aires and by community local institutions. Este trabajo presenta resultados de la investigación sobre el mejoramiento de la vivienda de zonas afectadas por el mal de Chagas, que se lleva a cabo en un área rural de Santiago del Estero, Argentina. Se analizan diseños y experiencias populares, y se describen prototipos de componentes constructivos y de vivienda económica para maestros rurales. La investigación se basa en el aprovechamiento de recursos materiales y humanos locales, con énfasis en la participación de la comunidad beneficiaria y en la transferencia de los resultados. El trabajo forma parte de un proyecto de investigación aplicada de la Universidad de Buenos Aires y es apoyado, además, por organismos comunitarios locales.
