Afterwards, it presents the methodological directives used in the pedagogical and investigational processes as well as the preliminary results of this approach in the architecture, urbanism and engineering courses in Passo Fundo. The first academic developed projects seek to approximate the student to the reality and the local context by means of the diagnosis of the slums and suburbs to be resettled, knowledge of the further users of the public and private programs, comparatives between the existing urban infra-structure and the essential in the anticipated areas for the implantation of housing centers, among other preparatory activities for the development of architectonic and urban projects. Next, the teaching subjects which ought to be incorporated in the course are the use and the development of alternative constructive technologies as well as the viability of the norms and the legislation suitable to this approach. It can be concluded that this is a manner to make the student and the courses leave their studios and interact with their reality and difficulties of the theme, and, at the same time, become capable to develop the professional practice in the existing working field, having its economical potential aggregated to the social outcomes. Este trabalho aborda a realidade da produção habitacional do interior do estado do Rio Grande do Sul, tomada como fundamentação e contexto para o desenvolvimento dos trabalhos acadêmicos. A seguir, apresenta as diretrizes metodológicas utilizadas nos processos pedagógicos e de investigação, bem os resultados preliminares dessa abordagem nos cursos de arquitetura e urbanismo e de engenharia em Passo Fundo. Os primeiros projetos acadêmicos desenvolvidos procuram levar o aluno mais perto da realidade e do contexto local, por meio de: diagnósticos de favelas e vilas a serem reassentadas, conhecimento dos futuros usuários de programas públicos e privados, comparativos entre a infra-estrutura urbana existente e a necessária nas áreas previstas para implantação de núcleos habitacionais, dentre outras atividades preparatórias para o desenvolvimento de projetos arquitetônicos e urbanísticos. Na continuidade, devem ser incorporados aos conteúdos ministrados nos cursos o uso e desenvolvimento de tecnologias construtivas alternativas, bem como a viabilização de normas e legislações condizentes com esse enfoque. Conclui-se que esta é uma forma de fazer com que o aluno e os cursos saiam dos ateliês e interajam com a realidade e a dureza do tema, mas também se capacitem para a prática profissional no campo de trabalho existente, que tem seu potencial econômico agregado ao resultado social.
