In Argentina, in spite of the fact that almost half its inhabitants have housing problems in different degrees, housing as a topic has a minor representation in the schools of architecture. Except for a Masters in Habitat and Housing (universities of Mar del Plata and Rosario) and lectures in the career of social studies, the “red” is made of lectures which are mainly optional. The topic is therefore considered to have no relevance other than being just developing new academic structures since we are convinced that changing the current career is a lost case, since all these years have proved that it is very difficult to change the degree of the architecture career. Quite the contrary, these careers tend to deepen their specialisation. This counter sense implies that public universities support a promotion system for a traditionally élite career in a massive way. This fact is only possible through stretching the teaching of a technical bachelor leading to a degree which despite being a devaluated promotion in social hierarchy, is still very attractive. El presente artículo es parte de una ponencia presentada recientemente en una Red, que conformamos quienes venimos trabajando a nivel académico en el campo de la vivienda en el Cono Sur latinoamericano. En el caso de Argentina, a pesar de sufrir casi la mitad de la población penurias habitacionales de distinto grado, la problemática de la vivienda tiene un tratamiento menor en las facultades de arquitectura. Exceptuando la Maestría en Hábitat y Vivienda (de las Universidades de Mar del Plata y Rosario), y las cátedras de las carreras de ciencias sociales, la red está compuesta por cátedras que en su mayoría son electivas. Es decir, que el tema no es considerado relevante, excepto como un tema más de proyecto. Para quienes opinamos que las carreras de Arquitectura necesitan una profunda transformación, este impedimento en poder abordar un problema complejo es la mejor prueba. Este trabajo entonces tuvo como objetivo demostrar el increíble atraso y malentendido que existe respecto de la problemática habitacional en las facultades de arquitectura, argumentando acerca del modo en que la evolución en los campos del conocimiento, nos ponen frente a una nueva construcción académica que situamos en la transdisciplina. La propuesta plantea la importancia estratégica de desarrollar nuevas estructuras académicas, dado que estamos convencidos que cambiar las actuales carreras es una lucha perdida, pues en estos años se ha demostrado que es muy difícil que el grado de las carreras de Arquitectura vaya a cambiar. Por el contrario, estas carreras tienden a profundizar su “especificidad”. Contrasentido que implica que en la Universidad pública sustente un sistema de promoción de una profesión históricamente elitista en forma masiva. Hecho que sólo es posible por medio de la prolongación de una enseñanza de bachillerato técnico y un título que otorga un “grado” que, pese a ser una devaluada promoción en la jerarquía social, aún conserva su atractivo.
