總結:The increase in violence in Latin America coincides with the restoration of democracy in most of the countries of the region and deep neoliberal measures leading to social changes and inequality. In addition, serious marginality gives communities different ranks within cities and creates critical and stigmatized zones. This paper analyzes the violence that has taken place in the periurban area of Santiago, especially in José María Caro. Additionally, this research offers a deeper insight into the historical development of the spatial conditions related to violence (stigma, segregation, urban services) and the perception of residents about the police. While José María Caro has a consolidated urban situation, the stigma of being a violent and dangerous place locate this neighborhood in the symbolic periurban area of the city. This paper analyzes institutional, political, economic, social and structural types of violence. Finally, it is possible to identify heterogeneity of cultural patterns that configurate the current situation of this neighborhood.
