Özet:This article reflects on the relationships between the myth-history thread and the image-art thread. There is an ontological difference between art and image: image’s scope includes a broader field than art. Such difference might be understood through questionings of the concept “history of art,” as well as theses about the “end of art.” Images are one of the main vehicles of mythical thinking, which on its own integrates individuals into community, granting the sense of unity with cosmos. Within myths, present makes sense only when related to a primary past. Contemporary societies are favored when they recover or do not lose contact with the myth (without becoming distant to rational thinking because of it). On its behalf, art is distinguished by technical-aesthetic values, and by being a suitable object for historical research −whose procedures and resources are based on discursive reason and scientific verification−.
