Descripció
Sumari:The river basins of the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires are subject to plans, programs and public projects and of a growing interest in understanding their problems as territories within the logics of metropolitan urbanization. They are usually presented using naturalized words, such as “urban fringe”, without taking into account its multiple meanings. In this framework, we look at the notions that are behind “urban fringe” in urban studies to reconstruct, from those ideas, some nuances of metropolitan transformations from a historical perspective. As we put it, thinking river basins as “urban fringes”, understood at the same time as the limit of the city, as areas of expansion where various logics of land occupation are superimposed, as a multiactoral space and as a process of historical construction, allows us to understand them in their own terms to be able to propose, from a renewed perspective, alternatives for their transformation.
