It takes as a case study the capital of the state of Santa Catarina based on the recognition of the massive use of this language in the city, which is a result of the accelerated process of growth and of the important role of commercial real estate industry, related to the urban-touristic development, in this process. The study, based on various theoretical and conceptual references, discusses the topic from the following aspects: the development of architectonic historicism with the weakening ofthe functionalist discourse of modernism, the relationship  between architectonic historicism and real state speculation and the ease of capture and proximity to this language by the public. Empirically, the study was conducted using a method that analyses, classifies and groups the architecture with such features from different variables: use, scale, time of construction, proposal of urban inclusion and values expressed. This classifi cation makes it possible to reveal specific aspects of this architectonic manifestation, the values expressed and its role in the construction of the contemporary landscape that is constructed in the island of Santa Catarina.Key words: historicist architecture, architectonic language, architectureand construction of the urban space, Florianópolis. Este trabalho tem por objeto o uso de elementos historicistasna arquitetura produzida no período contemporâneo na cidadede Florianópolis, os valores envolvidos em seu uso e seu papel na construção da imagem da cidade. Toma como estudo de caso a capital do estado de Santa Catarina, a partir do reconhecimento da massiva utilização desta linguagem na cidade, fruto do acelerado processo de crescimento e do importante papel do mercado imobiliário, relacionado com o desenvolvimento urbano-turístico, neste processo. O trabalho, baseado em referências teórico-conceituais diversas, discute a temática a partir das seguintes vertentes: o desenvolvimento do historicismo arquitetônico com o enfraquecimento do discurso funcionalista do modernismo, a relação entre historicismo arquitetônico e especulação imobiliária e a facilidade de captura e aproximação do público com esta linguagem. Em termos empíricos, o trabalho foi desenvolvido utilizando um método que analisa, classifica e agrupa a arquitetura com tais características a partir de diferentes variáveis: uso, escala, época de construção, proposta de inserção urbana e valores expressos. Esta classificação permitiu desvendar aspectos específicos dessa manifestação arquitetônica, dos valores expressos e de seu papel na construção da paisagem contemporânea da Ilha de Santa Catarina.Palavras-chave: arquitetura historicista, linguagem arquitetônica, arquitetura e construção do espaço urbano, Florianópolis.
