The methodology adopted is theoretical-empirical, based on the realization of bibliographic review and field visits at the Correctional Center São Francisco de Assis, in the city of Governador Valadares (MG). The theoretical contributions of authors that discuss the adequacy of natural lighting in architectural projects are taken as reference in this study. The quantitative aspects are not part of the proposal in this work. The low-light condition indoor was observed as one of the main architectural problems in the Center. Thus, this work proposes types of openings to increase the natural lighting indoor. Keywords: Socio-educational centers, natural lighting, youths in deprivation of freedom. O presente artigo objetiva apresentar um conceito arquitetônico que aborde questões decorrentes do aproveitamento de iluminação natural inseridas em edificações destinadas a jovens em situação de privação de liberdade. A metodologia adotada é teórico-empírica, tendo por base a realização de revisão bibliográfica e de visitas de campo, com registro em diário de bordo, realizadas no Centro Socioeducativo São Francisco de Assis, na cidade de Governador Valadares (MG). Tomam-se como referência neste estudo as contribuições teóricas de autores que discutem adequações de luz natural em projetos de arquitetura. Os aspectos quantitativos não fazem parte da proposta do trabalho em questão. Observou-se como um dos principais problemas arquitetônicos da Unidade campo do estudo a existência de pouca luminosidade nos espaços internos. Assim, este trabalho propõe tipologias de abertura para a inserção de iluminação natural no interior dos espaços.
