Summary:The design and development project for the urbanization of the area of irregular occupation in order to provide decent housing to the population need to consider possible negative impact it generates the population involved in both the physical and social processes. The main objective of this research is from a case study in Belém (Pará State) and adaptations of research carried out on the subject, helping to minimize the negative impact that such an undertaking may cause, due to common conflicts found between culture of the people involved and the technical language of his executioners. To do so, by collecting and analyzing data, we sought to understand how the population in receipt of an Enterprise Social Interest Housing (EHIS) of the Housing Company (COHAB) of Para, developed for an area of irregular occupation, was experiencing the project as well as their expectations about its outcome. The main contributions of this work relate to a better understanding of the negative impact on the population involved to obtain better solutions for similar ventures.Keywords: enterprise social housing, upgrading of squatter settlements, land regularization.
