EL CASO DE LA ZONA METROPOLITANA DE MONTERREY, MÉXICO González Aguirre, Raúl Rodrigo García García, Alejandro Centros comerciales plazas públicas Monterrey The opposition between civil public spaces (Bauman 2015), such as the public square, in relationto private spaces for public use, such as the shopping mall, condenses different semiotic contextsin the experience of living the city, that is, semiotic spaces outside of which the very existence ofthe exchange of meanings is impossible (Lotman, 1996), represented in the objects that make upthe place, the experiences of sociability between users and contact with the immediate urbanenvironment. In this article, two types of shopping malls and a public square in the Monterrey MetropolitanArea are analyzed with the aim of contrasting two different semiotic contexts and theirpredominant characteristics. If we start from the notion of a current crisis in the way of living thecity, this contrast presents us with elements for a dialogue, an exchange of guidelines, with thepurpose of intervening in decision-making in the provision of background explanatory criteriathat allow the design of better urban spaces for social coexistence. La oposición entre espacios públicos civiles (Bauman 2015), como la plaza pública, en relación aespacios privados de uso público, como el centro comercial, condensa contextos semióticosdiferentes en la experiencia de vivir la ciudad, es decir, espacios semióticos fuera delos cualesresulta imposible la existencia misma del intercambio de significados (Lotman, 1996),representadas en los objetos que componen el lugar, las experiencias de sociabilidad entreusuarios y el contacto con el entorno urbano inmediato.En el presente artículo se analizan dos tipologías de centro comercial y una plaza pública en laZona Metropolitana de Monterrey con el objetivo de contrastar dichos contextos semióticosdiferentes y sus características predominantes. Si se parte de la noción de una crisis actual en laforma de vivir la ciudad, dicho contraste nos presenta elementos para un diálogo, un intercambiode pautas, con el propósito de intervenir en la toma de decisiones en la provisión de criteriosexplicativos de fondo que permitan el diseño de mejores espacios urbanos para la convivenciasocial.
