It is based on the idea that disaster is not an event, but a process. Therefore, when analyzing the causes of the tragedy, in urban terms, we find more causal elements in the implementation of neoliberalism than in the telluric movements. Based on this, it is argued that, for capitalist interests, destruction has been a field of opportunity for the advance and consolidation of an economic model that has been configured as structural cause of disaster. El articulo aborda las transformaciones socio territoriales de las últimas tres décadas en la Ciudad de México y los desastres atribuidos a los sismos ocurridos en septiembre de 1985 y en 2017. Se parte de la idea que el desastre no es un acontecimiento, sino un proceso. Por ende, al analizar las causas de la tragedia, en términos urbanos, encontramos más elementos causales en la implementación del neoliberalismo que en los movimientos telúricos. Con base en ello, se argumenta que, para los intereses capitalistas, la destrucción ha sido un campo de oportunidad para el avance y consolidación de un modelo económico que se ha configurado como una causa estructural del desastre.
