| Sammanfattning: | In this text, we seek for a substantial definition for the word "governance", which until recently did not have an exact match in the portuguese language. However, it has been extensively used in the academic world, as well as in public administration and business. We have sought, through comparison and analysis of various theories, to get to a convergent idea of governance as applied in the conduction of public affairs and the improvement of democracy. Departing from this definition, we indicate the current instrumental usage of the concept and its manipulation as a matter for ideological constructions that help perpetuate the supremacy of some nations in the global politic-economic arena, whereas other nation's sovereignty is undermined in the name of governance itself. |
