Sumario:This article contemplates the study of several apartment buildings in Campinas throughout a period in which architecture had as its characteristic the same language as Modern Architecture. When analyz-ing this architectural production, we try to set its context within the city’s urban legislation and the role played by the only work by Oscar Niemeyer in the city, the Itatiaia building. Beyond their intention to be portrayed as modern, other architectural attempts in this period show an ideal to pursuit rather than the actual condition of being modern, which only the production by Oscar Niemeyer can ever achieve. This article seeks to reveal how unique this building is in such background by inserting it in its place in the history of the Brazilian architecture.
