description Based on the particular circumstances of the southwest region of São Paulo, this article discusses conflicts related to the social production of urban space, describing and analyzing three events in the slums located in this region. These events, treated as descriptive scenes, include: the purchase by a builder of 70 homes located in the Jardim Panorama shantytown; an eviction taking place in the Real Parque shantytown; and an uprising in the Paraisópolis shantytown. By analyzing these events, we infer that the process of evicting the poor from this region is primarily through economic coercion, made possible by the gradual process of privatization of urban management. This process is consolidated by both legality and illegality on the part of the government, the difficulty of publicizing the demands by the poorer population and the transformation of these sectors in the consumer markets.

Basado en las especificidades de la zona sudoeste de la ciudad de São Paulo, este artículo problematiza conflictos relacionados a la producción social del espacio urbano. De esa manera, narra y analiza tres eventos ocurridos en favelas ubicadas en esa región. Esos eventos, aquí tratados como escenas descriptivas, son: la compra, por una constructora, de setenta casas ubicadas en la favela Jardim Panorama; un desalojo ocurrido en la favela Real Parque; y un levante popular en la favela Paraisópolis. Por medio del análisis de estos acontecimientos, se concluye que el proceso de expulsión de las clases populares de esa región se reactualiza fundamentalmente por medio de la coerción económica, posibilitada por el paulatino proceso de privatización de la gestión urbana. Dicho proceso se consolida por medio de la operacionalización de la legalidad y de la ilegalidad por el Estado, por la dificultad de visibilización de los reclamos de los sectores populares y por la transformación de dichos sectores en mercado consumidor. Partindo de especificidades da região sudoeste de São Paulo, este artigo problematiza conflitos relacionados à produção social do espaço urbano. Para tanto, narra e analisa três eventos ocorridos em favelas localizadas nessa região. Ditos eventos, tratados como cenas descritivas, são: a compra, por uma construtora, de 70 moradias localizadas na favela Jardim Panorama; um despejo ocorrido na favela Real Parque; e um levante popular na favela Paraisópolis. Depreende-se, por meio da análise dos eventos em questão, que o processo de expulsão das classes populares dessa região reatualiza-se, fundamentalmente, por meio da coerção econômica, possibilitada pelo paulatino processo de privatização da gestão urbana. Dito processo se consolida por meio da operacionalização da legalidade e da ilegalidade pelo Estado, pela dificuldade de publicização das demandas pelos setores populares e pela transformação desses setores em mercado consumidor.
