description Este artigo apresenta a síntese de uma dissertação de mestrado sobre coordenação de projetos, realizado num programa de pós-graduação em construção civil. Nas atividades de coordenação são enfocadas a gestão da coordenação, relativa ao planejamento e ao gerenciamento do processo de projeto; e a coordenação técnica, referente à integração e ao desenvolvimento dos projetos, promovidas através das reuniões de coordenação, da compatibilização e da análise crítica. Os estudos de caso em duas construtoras e incorporadoras de grande porte e em três escritórios de projeto permitem caracterizar as práticas adotadas para a coordenação de projetos, conforme as alternativas empregadas para a sua realização (interna, externa ou terceirizada, além da consultoria em coordenação). Palavras-chaves: projeto de engenharia; projetos de edificações; coordenação de projetos. THE COORDINATION OF BUILDING DESIGNS: CASES ABSTRACT This work presents the synthesis of a master's degree dissertation about the design coordination. The case studies in two real estate development companies and in three building design offices made it possible to characterize the practices adopted for the design coordination, according to the alternatives used for its accomplishment. It were identified four alternatives, the design coordination accomplished interns or externally to the technical staff of the companies, the outsourced design coordination, besides the consultancy in coordination. In the academic middle the term consultancy was used to refer to the service of outsourced. The study of the companies allowed to distinguish the work of those two modalities of design coordination. In the coordination activities, the focus is on the coordination management, related to the planning and to the management of design process, and on the technical coordination, regarding the integration and the design development, all of them being promoted through the coordination meetings, the compatibilization and the critical analysis.
