Sumario:The objective of the article is to analyze the periurbanization in the municipalities of Tonalá and Poncitlán of the Metropolitan Zones of Guadalajara and Ocotlán in the state of Jalisco, Mexico, making use of the systemic approach from the perspective of urban metabolism. One of the main findings of the research presented here is that the peri-urban spaces under study experience greater havoc of contamination and institutional abandonment due to the legal irregularity of the settlements, unlike the rururban spaces, in which mixed activities coexist and their land use It is regulated by various legal bodies focused on agricultural surveillance and urban development.
