Description
Summary:La Mariscal is a neighborhood of the center-north of Quito that since the beginning of this century is immersed in urban rehabilitation dynamics. This article explores the impact of the different rehabilitation events that have taken place in the neighborhood and its incidence in the appearance of the phenomenon of hidden poverty, which defines the processes of impoverishment that experience indoors certain homes and middle class economic ventures located in the area. Through the application of mixed methods shows that these populations are in conditions of economic instability, while the value creation that has had the neighborhood and the emergence of new land uses and practices associated with tourism have failed to benefit widely due to its geographical location in the area, the type of goods and services offered and structural conditions related to the labor market. Thus, it is concluded that the current context of urban rehabilitation of the neighborhood, beyond provoking expulsion or gentrification processes, encourages these populations to deepen their situations of risk, concealment, impoverishment and descending social mobility
