Description
Summary:The tend homogeneous pattern of international images of cities redefined the role of policies for the promotion of cities in the urban restructuring processes at the turn of the century. This pattern is related to the capitalist restructuring, which automatically implies a new structure of space and a cultural change related to post-modernity. However, the actions and spatial modernization practices that express the tension between rigidity and mobility within, reveal the moments that past spatial structure became barrier to accumulation, becoming modified. Based on these findings, we analyze the case of productive restructuring in the 1990s in the Metropolitan Region of Curitiba (RMC, Brazil), where the changes in the form of planning (State and technical character between the 1960s and 1980s for strategic from the 1990s) did not alter the uniformity and hegemony of a set of city fragments, deepening inequality and the gap between rich and planned polo and a periphery formed by surrounding municipalities with lower conditions of quality of life.
