| Achoimre: | Planning in drylands highlight the relevance of water as a structuring axis of the territory, nevertheless, the perception of social actors has not gained major importance in public instruments of land use planning. Under the theoretical conceptualization of the territory, the environmental perceptions and the common goods, this investigation assesses the way in which the small cattle producers perceive the water in in non-irrigated drylands. To do this, we selected a case study located in the department of Santa Rosa, MendozaArgentina and analyzed it through a qualitative methodology. Reviewed studies focus on territorial imbalances, showing great concern about the availability and scarcity of water resources. However, field data indicate that one of the most disturbing conflicts in small producers’ daily life is the presence of water in the Tunuyán River since it generates a physical and symbolic limit to them by preventing accessibility to urban centers. We consider that land use planning processes should include the heterogeneities of populations that shape the territory, in order to adjust guidelines for the resolution of conflicts based on the relationship between society and nature. |
