Initially, the importance of environmental sustainability is analysed, and several possible actions regarding the nature and the use of building water supply systems for promoting sustainability are discussed. Considering those actions, some models for managing such actions are proposed, which allow their benefits, risks and costs to be evaluated. At the conclusion, the results of some simulations that illustrate the effects of water conservation actions are discussed. Este trabalho procura refletir sobre o papel dos sistemas prediais hidráulicos e sanitários na promoção da sustentabilidade ambiental, mais especificamente, dos recursos hídricos naturais. Neste sentido, é abordada inicialmente a premência da sustentabilidade ambiental e posteriormente são discutidas diversas ações possíveis relacionadas à natureza e ao uso dos sistemas prediais hidráulicos e sanitários, ações essas que visam a promoção da sustentabilidade. Definidas tais ações, são apresentados modelos de gestão integrada das mesmas, os quais possibilitam avaliar os benefícios, riscos e custos destas medidas de intervenção. E, em uma breve reflexão final, são discutidos os resultados de algumas simulações que cristalizam os efeitos destas ações de conservação de água sobre balanço hídrico dos recursos naturais.
