Puerto Momotombo after the earthquake in 2016. Informed by the theory on social construction of risk, it argues that diverse codes, set of meanings and ways held by inhabitants in the construction process
have sustained deficient techniques resulting in a setting in which vulnerability has accumulated.
Furthermore, this paper advocates for a new form in understanding risk studies. It is rooted in an
assessment model in which socioeconomic and cultural conditions held by residents are at the core of the analysis. It also stresses the importance of considering the socially constructed ways in which risk comes into being.
