Summary:In the history of Colombian architecture, one of the several buildings that took the longest to build was the National Capitol of Colombia. From there, he received the nickname “Stone Sick.” Although, the original concept of the building meant, in the mid-nineteenth century, a monument symbol of nationalist power, predominantly horizontal and without a dome, there were several attempts to change that idea, from the end of the same century and until the first decades of the next. Taking into account the foregoing, this document focuses on the moment in which the national Government, through the Ministry of Public Works, strives to complete the building. In the midst of this initiative, the figures of several national and foreign architects and engineers, such as Santamaría, Lelarge and Corredor Latorre, emerge, who, from their architectural projects, tried to solve the problem. Despite the approval, by the Ministry, of providing the House of Representatives with a great neo-baroque dome, the materialization of the work was not carried out either. In this measure, the present article tries to answer the question: What were the architectural and stylistic changes that were presented for the completion of the construction of the Government Palace, of the executive and legislative powers of the Nation, between 1912 and 1914? To answer this question, the qualitative study of primary sources, and some secondary ones, that frame the period in question, is used.
