| description |
The present article of reflection debates around diverse sources on the present of the Latin American architecture journals, using the 21st century as historical frame defined by multiple platforms and supports for its development as specialized diffusion media. In this sense, architecture is first understood in its theoretical-practical condition, where there are many ways of being studied because it’s a complex discipline in sense, form and support; based on do and declare, architecture explores through different means of representation its own development.
In the article, the journal is reviewed as an editorial product, whit the purpose to be evidently specialized, next to a defined position both by the opinions expressed on it as by its editorial scopes. In this way, the architecture journal is understood as a media capable of generating proactive content for the disciplinary own tasks. So, architectural magazines have a double condition: must support multiple levels of information, where in addition to the text and written language, appears its own architectural language; and be a historiographical source, understanding the past, criticizing the present and proposing for the future, manifesting a contemporaneity between ideas and projects.
Thus, the article explores how architectural journals face the 21st century with a value in the formation and development of discursive, operational and representation lines, following a tradition that began in the 18th century in Europe and has been translated, during the 19th and 20th centuries to other spheres, becoming fundamental for the study of different movements and periods of architecture.
Methodologically, the article approaches these topics through the study of the chilean magazines Revista de Arquitectura number 23, Arquitecturas del Sur number 50 and the argentinian magazine DANA number 43; faced with experiences such as the Asociación de Revistas Latinoamericanas de Arquitectura (ARLA) and the Centro de Documentación de Arquitectura Latinoamericana (Cedodal). In this way, it could be understood in the new production of specialized editorial products the state of contemporary architecture itself, questioning it and proposing changes with respect to its theoretical or practical work, generally based on more uncertainties than sureness.

In this way, it could be understood in the new production of specialized editorial products the state of contemporary architecture itself, questioning it and proposing changes with respect to its theoretical or practical work, generally based on more uncertainties than sureness.
