Much effort has been made for improving the performance of the production planning and control process in the construction industry through the implementation of the Last Planner System of Production Control (LPS). Despite the wide dissemination of Last Planner in different countries, very few quantitative analyses have been undertaken on the impact of its implementation and on the factors that affect its effectiveness. Using an existing database, this study aims to assess the impact of the effectiveness of Last Planner based production planning and control systems on the performance of construction projects in terms of cost and time. This investigation has also analyzed the impact of a set of site management practices on the effectiveness of those planning systems. Several analyses were carried out using regression analysis techniques. In spite of some limitations on the data available, the study discusses the influence of Last Planner on project performance, and of the importance of site management best practices on the effectiveness of planning and control. O processo de planejamento e controle da produção tem grande impacto no desempenho dos empreendimentos de construção. Diversos esforços têm sido realizados na indústria da construção para melhorar o desempenho deste processo através da implementação do Sistema Last Planner de Controle da Produção. Em que pese a ampla disseminação deste sistema em diversos países, foram realizados poucos estudos quantitativos sobre o impacto da sua implementação e os fatores que afetam a eficácia do planejamento e controle. Utilizando uma base de dados de empreendimentos existente, o presente trabalho buscou avaliar o impacto da eficácia de sistemas de planejamento e controle da produção, baseados no Last Planner, no desempenho de empreendimentos da construção civil quanto ao custo e ao prazo. Foi também analisada a influência de boas práticas de canteiros de obras na eficácia destes sistemas. Através da técnica de regressão múltipla foram realizadas diversas análises envolvendo indicadores de eficácia do planejamento, desvio de custo, desvio de prazo e boas práticas de canteiros de obras. Apesar de algumas limitações nos dados disponíveis, apontou-se algumas evidências sobre o impacto do Last Planner no desempenho dos empreendimentos e a importância das boas práticas de canteiros de obras na eficácia do planejamento.
